Happy Vasant Panchmi...................Chirote

Vasant Panchami is an important Indian festival celebrated every year in the month of Magh according to the Hindu calendar. Celebrated on the fifth day of Magh, the day falls somewhere in the months of February or March according to the Gregorian calendar. The significance of the day lies in the worship of Goddess Saraswati, symbol of wisdom and also the onset of spring season.

The color yellow is the predominant color associated with the festival. Surprise everyone with a special sweet after food. Its crispy dipped in a sugary syrup dripping giving a wonderful experience to your taste buds to savor. It's  a Maharashtrian specialty and its called "CHIROTE". 

Chirote



Preparation Time: 20 mins
Resting time : 1 to 2 hrs
Cooking time: 45 mins

Ingredients:

  1. Refined Flour: 1 Cup
  2. Semolina: 1 tbs
  3. Yogurt: 1/4 cup
  4. Milk: 1/4 Cup
  5. Ghee: 2 tbs
  6. Rice Flour: 2 tbs
  7. Salt: pinch
  8. Sugar: 2 Cup
  9. Water: 1 cup
  10. Rose water: 1 tbs
  11. Cardmon Powder: 1 tsp
  12. Lemon juice: 1 to 2 tbs
  13. Safforan Strands: 6 to 7
  14. Cloves: 20 nos
  15. Castor Sugar: 1 tbs
  16. Oil: frying
Procedure:
  1. Pulse the Semolina in a blender for 3-4 seconds. 
  2. Heat 1 tbs ghee.
  3. In a bowl, place the Maida, ground Semolina and Salt. 
  4. Pour the heated ghee. Stir with a spoon. Allow the ghee to cool a bit. 
  5. Mix the rest of the flour well with the ghee till it looks crumbly.
  6. Now add Yogurt and Milk and make this into a stiff dough,Allow to rest for 1 to 2 hrs.
  7. In the mean while place the Sugar, Water and Saffron threads in a pan and allow it to boil, stirring continuously. The syrup would take about 10  minutes on a medium flame to be ready to a one string consistency.
  8. Once the syrup is ready, add the Lemon juice, Rose Water and Cardamom powder to it.
  9. Mix the 1 tbs ghee and the rice flour well and set aside.
  10. Roll thin Chapaties, take one chapati spread Rice cream, cover with another chapati.apply same process and put third chapati on it. Again spread some Rice cream.
  11. Now roll this layered chapati to make to make cylindrical roll. make some more rolls.
  12. Now cut roll into small pieces and flatten them and insert one clove in middle. 
  13. Heat Oil ,Fry Chirote medium low flame,till it get golden color.
  14. Drop fried Chirote in sugar syrup,coat it well for 10-15 min.
  15. Place Chirote on a strainer,so that all extra syrup will flow down.
  16. For the dusted Chirotas:  In a sieve / tea strainer, put the powdered sugar and the cardamom powder. As soon as the Chirotas are out of the oil, dab them with a tissue paper, and tap the tea strainer over the Chirotas to sprinkle them with the cardamom-sugar powder.
